The Week

Already sated your appetite for Doggebi Monday? Looking for something to read the rest of the week? Here's what I'm reading...

These are comics I actually read. No one has asked me to pimp their book for them. If it's in here it's because I naturally fell in love with the book. And I intend to keep it that way. So I'm just saying up front I won't be entertaining requests to promote books here.

MONDAY

  • reMIND - (Jason Brubaker) - A seaside town with odd bubbling water, a power armored hyper-intelligent cat, lizard people... this story has it all. And it is rendered gorgeously. I love the way Jason plays with light and depth.  Jason doesn't know it but he has been one of the most influential factors in why The Legendary Sisters of the Laughing Doggebi exists as a webcomic. He runs the Making Comics podcast. He's also successfully funded not one but two kickstarters for reMIND volumes 1 and 2.
  • Divinity - (Kevin Rojas Veliz and Nicolas R Giacondino) - Nicolas shows up a couple of times on this list because he's so amazing I'll follow his work anywhere. Nic could draw a comic about teddy-bears having tea parties and hug parties with unicorns and I'd still read it just for the visuals. Fortunately for Divinity though it's not just the visuals that make it interesting. Even though it's only just begun Kevin's world is very intriguing. I recommend you get in on this now!

Wednesday

  • Bearmageddon - (Ethan Nicolle) - Here's a twist on the zombie apocalypse, only replace the zombies with genetically augmented super bears. You might recognize Ethan's name, he's the genius who brought us Axe Cop. This is a good time.
  • Wolf and Sister - (Nachomon) - Nacho's take on the 40K universe is extremely unique. While his render might be considered chibi-esque he manages to retain all the grim-dark or the setting. Listen, I'm a Dark Angel player... if I like a comic about Space Wolves *ptui!* it MUST be good. Check it out.

Thursday

  • Shiver Bureau (Walter Ostile) - Here's a nice little alternate universe for you... one where ghosts roam with a frequency that borders on pestilence. I like Walter's work a lot. It's intentionally rough and gritty and it makes guys like me (who are unintentionally rough and gritty) have hope. It's fun, super stylized and is well worth the reading.
  • Powernap (Maritza Campos and Bachan) - Here we have a society that has stopped dreaming... well most of it has. Our protagonist wishes he could stop. His nightmares are just a little too real. This has got to be one of the most polished and well written things I've ever seen grace the world wide web with its presence. It's witty, full of social commentary and rendered with amazing beauty.

Friday

  • Free Mars (Dave Pauwels and Nicolas R Giacondino  - Here's Nic's second entry in my weekly webcomic diet. Look I cannot stress this enough, READ THIS COMIC. I don't know exactly what it is but I have this visceral love for Free Mars. Maybe its because its protagonists are also 'Sisters'. Maybe it's that it also has tough women who sport tats and piercings  Or maybe it's just because it's fresh, smartly written by the extremely talented Dave Pauwels, amazingly illustrated, and one of the most unique comics I've ever seen.
  • Divinity - What what??? Yeah that's right. Divinity updates twice a week. How cool is that.
