Prologue P08

Darkest before the dawn...

This week's entry was easily the most difficult for me so far. Not technically mind you... there was very little technical challenge this week at all. No I'm talking about the content. When I scripted this scene my goal was to show how horrible these men are. I trust it's not a spoiler to say that the sisters are about to make things right for this girl and her father... but this page, with its hopelessness, it's tragedy and the violence toward women were pretty draining.

Regarding word 'faggot'. It's included here because its exactly the type of thing these guys would say... there's something that goes with unbridled machismo which incites homophobia. I find it an extremely foul word and even typing it made me uncomfortable. I have a new found respect for Tarantino with his ability to use similarly hate-charged words in his work. This is an assumption (and we know what assumptions make us) but I'm sure he must struggle likewise.

But at the end of the day, this is not an apology. I want the content of this page to offend, to create a visceral reaction... I want you uncomfortable. I want you empathizing with this jumo and her dad. I want you to know their hopelessness... if I've done that, then I've succeeded.
